(Week 12) David Tennant

I have just gotten done watching the David Tennant version of   Hamlet. I chose this version because I think that Tennant is a really good actor and well he's the Doctor. This movie a produced by John Wyver and Sebastian Grant, was directed by  Gregory Doran, and the stars were, David Tenannt (Hamlet), Patrick Stewart (the ghost and Claudius) , and Penny Downie (Ophelia). Like the original Hamlet play, this movie took place in 20th century  Denmark, in what looked like a castle.  There were some things I really liked about the David Tennant movie, But there were some things I really didn't like. Tennant did a really good job of acting mad, and I thought his expressions when he was talking to Polonius were really great. I also really liked the actor that played Poloneius. But there were some things that trove me crazy about this movie. For example, I didn't like it that though out the  whole movie they only used one room (except for the grave digger scene).  But they did do a good job filming it at different angels so that it looked like they were in a different room. Also I really didn't like the actor that played Ophelia, she was really weird looking. 

Julius Cesar Paper (Week 12)

Julius Cesar

   Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your ears!”  In other words listen up! I have just gotten done watching Shakespeare’s Julius Cesar, by Charlton Hesten, which I thought was really very good.  The costuming wasn’t very good, but the scenery made up for it, and it had a lot of historical accuracy.

      The costuming in this play was tolerable but there were some things I saw wrong with it. Brutus wore this red apron like thing that I thought was completely unnecessary. And the armor looked bulky and useless. But as I said I did see a few things that looked good. Cesar’s outfit was fairly accurate; it was a toga with a robe that he always had draped around himself.   Portia’s attire was very interesting; it was a kind of lavender color and was really long and flowing. At the battle field their helmets, though they were a little bulky, looked like the normal centenarian amour. Some of the costumes were not the best but, some were really agreeable.

       For the most part the scenery in this movie was marvelous.  The city looked really good; it is what I would have imagined it would look like, it had lots of small buildings that were fairly close together most of which were made of a white colored stone.  In Act Two when Brutus was talking to the conspirators on his roof, you could see the whole city below and it was really superb.  The scenery on the battle field was awesome. The bright green grass, and all of the big builders and hills. But the “swords” they used were more like daggers and about three inches thick. The scenery in this movie was beautiful. 

   There was lots of historical accuracy in this play. According to the history books and Wikipedia, the battle really did take place shortly after Cesar’s death. And in the beginning of the play when it cited that Cesar had defeated the general Pompey that was also true. Pompey was another person that did not believe in Cesar’s rules he made an army and meant to stand up against Cesar, but Cesar killed Pompey instead. I don’t think that all of those conversations in general were accurate. But when Cesar died in the play he said “Et tu, Bruté?” this is historically correct.       Lots of the things in the play actually took place.

      

    In conclusion, I think that the Charlton Hesten version of Julius Cesar was pretty good, for its time. The three main parts I liked were the costuming, scenery and the historical accuracy. Though the swords might have looked two inches thick, and some costumes looked like aprons, they did a really good job, and they were all very good actors.  

 

Week 11- "Oh Heavy Burden"

   When Polonius tells Ophelia...."We are oft to blame in this, 'tis too much proved, that with devotion’s visagen and pious action we do sugar o'er the devil himself." Claudius feels that what Poloniusd said fits with is own life. He feels like he has..."most painted words." I think the reaction Claudius had, was sadness and guilt. Describing is guilt as a ..."Heavy Burden" for killing his brother.

Week-10 lesson 2 Thought Qusetion Two- He's Mad!

What were Hamlets appearances when he visited Ophelia? When she rushed  to her father to tell him what she had seen, she cited that his face was as white as his under shirt and his knees knocked together. She also told her father that he looked..."As if he had been loosèd out of hell".

I think he appeared that way so that it would scare Ophelia. Because he knew she would go to her father and tell him, then he would go to the "King" and tell him. And he need that.

How Hamlet dressed convinced Ophelia that he was mad. For no gentleman would dress... "with his doublet all unbraced, no hat upon his head, his stockings fouled, ungartered, and down-gyvèd to his ankle"

(Week 9) Gosts Are Nice!

King Hamlet was killed by his evil brother, Wile he Was sleeping in his garden, which was his..." custom always of the afternoon"  Claudius, his evil brother crept up upon him and poisoned him. "Upon my secure hour thy uncle stole with juice of cursed hebenon in a vial, and in the porches of my ears did pour". I could not find anything of any significance. 

Which Ones Which (part 1 Week 8)

 Paul Ryan-Mark Antony
 Both are smiler in many ways. Both were (or hope to be) second in command  of their country. Also, they both stand up for what they believe and are not easily swayed by others words. They are both really good at persuading people in their speech's.


Abram Lincoln - Cesar
To start off both Cesar and Lincoln were assassinated by people who did not like their dissensions. However I don't think that Lincoln thought him self a god or thought very highly of himself a all. But they there both very famous and long remembered. Also Lincoln died on the 14th of April  which is almost the ides of April, and Cesar died on the ides of March.


 Joe Biden - Cassius
There are many similarities between these two men. Both silty bend the truth to get there way. Both I think are bully's and can be really mean at times. They both have the power of authority and most people trust the people that have more authority than them self's because thats just the mind set of most people.


Mitt Romney - Brutus
 These two men both have good intentions but they don't always go the way the hope. both are really good speech givers and are very  persuasive. I think they a smiler overall but their are a few differences, Romney is trying to make changes for the benefit of the American people, but Brutus was in the end doing it for himself.

(Week 7) Lesson 3 review question 6.

What does Antony intend to do? After Caesar's death Antony asks the conspirators  if he can take the body of the once great and...."speak order of his funeral". They agree, so Antony goes and speaks to the people of how  great and wonderful Caesar was. Finely he reads them his will, telling them that he wanted to give all the people....."seventy-five drachmas", and all of his parks, and that was just to much for them, so they went and wreaked havoc through out the city. I think that Antony intend to make them mad so that the people would think the conspirators evil.

(week 6) lesson 2 question 5

The traders wanted Cicero in their plot because they thought that he had a..... "mature presence" and he would make them look good. But after talking about it for a bit they decided not to tell  him about their plan because they said that....."he will never follow anything  that other men begin".

Week 5 lsson 1 review question 2

In my opinion the main focus of this play is how a uprising started to arouse in some of the roman hearts. For some thought that Chaser was just an average man and that any man could be just as great as he if only they tried. So saying that I think the main characters in this play are the traders, including Cassius, saying that Chaser had .... "unseemly ambition".

Lesson 4 review question 10

At the closing of the play King Henry courts and weds Kathrine of France appointing her his Queen. In my opinion Shakespeare thinks Henry a stout-hearted, but romantic young man. Many occasions in history, kings would just marry and not really love the lass. But in this scene Henry expresses his uncontainable love for his.... "dear Kate".

Lesson 3 Review Question 6

    The attitude of the solders was different from Henry because they were worried about the size of their army. "There’s five to one. Besides, they all are fresh." King Henry however, thought that they were an acceptable match for the French and if they were to die then they would die in honor;  "What’s he that wishes so? If we are marked to die, we are enough to do our country loss."

   The power of ceremony is demonstrated in Henry's St. Crispin's day speech. The King rouses the hearts of his men by calling them his " band of brothers." Ceremony is giving more emotion than just simply  talking to them. I don't really think that they would have listened to him or taken him so seriously if he would have just given them a pep talk.

I think the main difference between commoners and the King is the the peasant can look over the land and enjoy the peace of it without "worrying his dull head", the King has to go to sleep at night thinking about the toils of the world.

 Q: Why do Fuluenllen and Pistol quarrel?

A: Bardolph and Pistol are old friends. Bardolph was caught looting a pax, so  Pistol aiming to manipulate Fuluenllen to go and plead for Bardolph’s life to the duke of Exeter thinking he would have more swaying power than him self. But Fuluenllen refused which sent Piston into a rage.
